HOW CAN THE CANADIAN MILITARY HELP?

1. Emergency Response: The CAF can be mobilized under the Emergency Management Act to assist in humanitarian efforts during national emergencies, which could include severe winter conditions exacerbating a homelessness crisis.

2. Aid to Civil Authorities: Under the National Defence Act, the CAF can provide aid to civil authorities if requested to help manage the crisis. This could involve setting up temporary shelters, providing medical aid, or logistical support.

3. Civilian Command: Even when engaged in domestic operations, the CAF remains under civilian command, ensuring that military assistance in a homelessness crisis is coordinated with civilian government strategies and complies with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
